Abstract:Objective To translate the Clinical Adjustment Scale for Student Nurses (CAS-SN) into Chinese and to test its reliability and validity among nursing interns. Methods The original English version of the CAS-SN was translated and back-translated follo-wing the Brislin′s translation model.Cross-cultural adaptation was conducted via a roundtable discussion to formulate the Chinese version.A convenience sample of 415 nursing interns was surveyed to evaluate its reliability and validity. Results Exploratory factor analysis identified three common factors, accounting for 83.727% of the total variance.Confirmatory factor analysis yielded satisfactory fit of the 3-factor model:χ2/df=1.678, RMSEA=0.057, NFI=0.884, CFI=0.949, IFI=0.950.The item-level content validity index for the Chinese version ranged from 0.923 to 1.000, and the scale-level content validity index/average was 0.867.The overall Cronbach′s α coefficient of the scale was 0.921, the split-half reliability was 0.852, and the test-retest reliability was 0.889. Conclusion The Chinese version of the CAS-SN demonstrates good reliability and validity, and can be used to assess clinical adaptation of nursing interns in China.
