Abstract:Objective To summarize and analyze assessment tools for maladaptive eating behaviors after bariatric surgery, and to provide a reference for screening or developing appropriate assessment tools for maladaptive eating behaviors in post-bariatric and me-tabolic surgery patients in China. Methods Following the Arksey and O′Malley scoping review framework, literature related to assessment tools for maladaptive eating behaviors after bariatric surgery was retrieved from domestic and international databases, with the search period extending from database inception to April 9, 2025.Basic characteristics of the included studies and assessment tools were extracted and systematically analyzed. Results A total of 30 studies were ultimately included, of which 16 focused on the development of assessment tools and 14 on cross-cultural adaptation and validation. These studies covered 16 assessment tools for maladaptive eating behaviors after bariatric surgery.Commonly used tools included Bariatric Surgical Alterations in Tole-rability, Enjoyment and Cravings in the Diet(BSATED), Binge Eating Scale (BES), Dietary Compliance Scale for Patients After Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS), Eating Disorder Examination Interview-Bariatric Surgery Version (EDE-BSV), and Repetitive Eating Questionnaire [Rep(eat)-Q]. Conclusion There is a wide variety of assessment tools for maladaptive eating behaviors after bariatric surgery. It is recommended to use multidimensional assessment tools to evaluate patients′ maladaptive eating behaviors. In the future, further validation and refinement of existing tools are needed, along with the development or adaptation of culture-specific assessment instruments tailored to maladaptive eating behaviors in Chinese patients after bariatric surgery.
