Abstract:Objective To systematically review the qualitative research on midwives′ experiences and perceptions of providing dignity care to childbearing women, and to provide references for developing intervention measures to promote humanistic care during childbirth. Methods Qualitative studies on midwives′ experiences of providing dignity care to childbearing women were retrieved from Chinese and English databases. The search period was from 2010 to August 2025. The quality of the included literature was evaluated using the qualitative research evaluation tool of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Evidence-Based Health Care Center and Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). The results were re-integrated using the convergent Meta-synthesis method. Results A total of 13 articles were included, and 30 clear research results were extracted and classified into 9 categories. Three integrated results were formed:midwives′ perceived benefits of dignity in childbirth care ;multifaceted coping strategies for dignity in childbirth care;multiple practice dilemmas in dignity-conserving childbirth care. Conclusion Dignity care during childbirth still faces many implementation difficulties. Midwives should implement multi-level care strategies, effectively assess and meet the needs of pregnant and postpartum women, and hospitals should strengthen the education of midwives on maintaining the dignity of pregnant and postpartum women, improve humanistic care intervention measures, and enhance the quality of midwifery practice.
