Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of discharge planning services in patients undergoing total laryngectomy for laryngeal cancer. Methods A total of 84 patients scheduled for total laryngectomy for laryngeal cancer were chronologically assigned to either a control group (n=42), receiving routine nursing care and discharge guidance, or an intervention group (n=42), receiving structured discharge planning services. Results Forty patients in each group completed the study. Compared to the control group, the intervention group demonstrated significantly higher scores in discharge readiness, quality of discharge guidance, and quality of life during the first 30 days post-discharge (all P<0.05). Additionally, the intervention group had a significantly lower incidence of postoperative complications and adverse events (P<0.05). Conclusion Implementing discharge planning services for laryngeal cancer patients undergoing total laryngectomy effectively enhances the quality of discharge guidance, improves discharge readiness and quality of life of patients, and reduces postoperative complications and adverse events.
