Abstract:Objective To translate and validate the Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised (BSS-R) into Chinese and test its reliability and validity. Methods With authorization from the scale developer, the original scale was forward-translated, back-translated, culturally adapted, and pretested based on the Brislin model to form the Chinese version BSS-R.Between June 2024 and January 2025, a survey was conducted with 482 postpartum women to evaluate the scale′s reliability and validity. Results The Chinese version BSS-R includes three dimensions:quality of care provision, stress experienced during labour, and women′s personal attributes, with a total of 10 items. The content validity index for the item level and the scale level was 0.875-1.000 and 0.950, respectively.Three common factors were extracted through exploratory factor analysis, accounting for a cumulative variance of 67.799%.Confirmatory factor analysis indicated that χ2/df=1.972,RMSEA=0.070,NFI=0.920,IFI=0.959,TLI=0.941, and CFI=0.958.The Cronbach′s α, split-half reliability, and test-retest reliability coefficients for the Chinese version BSS-R was 0.748, 0.805 and 0.901, respectively. Conclusion The Chinese version BSS-R has good reliability and validity and can serve as a practical tool for assessing birth satisfaction of Chinese women.
