Abstract:Objective To determine the level and factors influencing professional development among clinical nursing mentors, and to provide a reference for formulating targeted training programs. Methods A convenience sample of 475 clinical nursing mentors from six tertiary general hospitals were surveyed using a demographic data questionnaire, the Educators′ Professional Development Scale, and the Organizational Career Management Scale. Results The sample scored (82.23±5.82) for professional development and (45.71±6.88) for organizational career management. Education level, fertility status, teaching atmosphere in the hospital, head nurse′s support, and perception of organizational career management level were the influencing factors of professional deve-lopment in clinical nursing mentors (all P<0.05). Conclusion The professional development ability of clinical nursing mentors is at a moderate level, and affected by several factors. It is suggested that managers should strengthen organizational career management to promote the professional development of clinical nursing mentors.
