Abstract:Objective To translate the Nurse Intuition Patient Deterioration Scale (NIPDS) into Chinese and to test its reliability and validity. Methods After obtaining the authorization of the scale from the original author by email, the English version of the NIPDS was translated, synthesized and back-translated based on the Brislin translation model, and then scale was culturally adapted and revised through expert consultation, cognitive interviews and pre-survey to form the Chinese version of the NIPDS. A convenience sampling method was used to select 302 inpatients from a tertiary hospital in Shandong Province for NIPDS assessment from December 2023 to February 2024, and the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the NIPDS was evaluated. Results The Chinese version of the NIPDS had 9 items, with a Cronbach′s α coefficient of 0.816 and a split half reliability of 0.795 and an ICC value of 0.937; the item-level content validity index (I-CVI) ranged from 0.80 to 1.00, and the scale-level CVI, S-CVI/Ave was 0.93. The area under the ROC curve was 0.907 (95% CI:0.873-0.941), the optimal risk threshold was 4 points, the maximum Youden′s index was 0.716, the sensitivity was 0.938, and the specificity was 0.778. Conclusion The Chinese version of the NIPDS has good reliability and validity in the application of domestic inpatients. With a good predictive performance, it can be used by nurses to assess the risk of deterioration in inpatients.
