Abstract:Objective To summarize the best evidence of healthcare professionals′ support for bereaved family members, thereby providing clinical healthcare professionals with references for offering bereavement support services. Methods Following the "6S" model of the evidence hierarchy, domestic and international databases for clinical decisions, guidelines, evidence summaries, systematic reviews, expert consensus, and randomized controlled trials on healthcare professionals′ support for bereaved family members were systematically searched. The search covered literature published up to June 30, 2023. Two researchers selected studies that met the inclusion criteria, evaluated the quality of the literature, and synthesized the evidence based on themes. Results A total of 13 articles were included:1 guideline, 6 systematic reviews, 3 expert consensus statements, and 3 randomized controlled trials. By integrating professional judgment, evidence was summarized in five areas:requirements of bereavement support teams, principles of bereavement support, assessment of bereavement support, general bereavement support strategies, and specia-lized bereavement support strategies, forming 25 pieces of best evidence. Conclusion The summarized best evidence on bereavement support provided by healthcare professionals to bereaved families is comprehensive, and can offer an evidence-based foundation for implementing high-quality bereavement support.
