Abstract:Objective To collect leadership assessment tools for nurses at home and abroad, to summarize and analyze the types, reliability, validity, and functions of the tools, and to provide a reference for further research on nurses′ leadership and nursing talent selection. Methods We systematically searched such databases as PubMed, CINHAL (EBSCO host), EMBASE, Wiley, ProQuest, PsycINFO, CNKI, Wanfang Data, and VIP, to identify studies regarding leadership assessment tools for nurses published from database inception to December 31, 2022.The related information was extracted, and the results were normatively reported per methodology of scoping reviews. Results A total of 13 studies (involving 14 scales) were included. Nine scales were developed exclusively for and validated in nurses, and 5 scales were developed in fields other than nursing, but validated in nurses.Three scales were translated into Chinese.Only one nurse leadership scale was developed in China independently. Conclusion The nurse leadership assessment tools are mainly from foreign countries, the research perspectives and domains are gradually refined, with 4 scales having been well tested for reliability and validity.Domestic researchers should increase the independency of nurse leadership research in the future and further develop assessment tools tailored to nursing field in China′s context, in a bid to promote nurse leadership improvement.
