Objective To translate the Traumatic Stress Scale for Midwives(TSSM)，and to test its reliability and validity, so as to provide a tool for assessing the traumatic stress level of midwives in China. Methods A Chinese version of the TSSM was developed using the Brislin translation model, which was then used to investigate 385 midwives to test its reliability and validity. Results The Chinese version of the TSSM was a unidimensional scale with 15 items, including frequency and impact subscales, the cronbach′s alpha coefficient of which was 0.888 and 0.953, the split-half reliability was 0.916 and 0.819, the retest reliability was 0.824 and 0.884, and the criterion-related validity was 0.525 and 0.272 when Anxiety-Stress-Depression Scale was used as the criterion (all P<0.05). The content validity index of the scale was 0.949, and the content validity index of each item was 0.833-1.000.One common factor was extracted by exploratory factor analysis, and the cumulative variance contribution rate was 70.784%. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis showed that, all the indicators of the model met the criteria and the model fit well. Conclusion The Chinese version of the TSSM has good reliability in the domestic midwives population, and it can be used to measure the traumatic stress level of midwives.
