Objective To translate the Accommodation and Enabling Scale for Eating Disorders (AESED) from English into Chinese, and to test its reliability and validity. Methods The English version AESED was translated into Chinese according to the Brislin′s translation model, which was culturally adjusted and revised through experts′ consultations and preinvestigation. Then it was utilized to investigate 300 family caregivers of patients with eating disorders to test its reliability and validity. Results The S-CVI/ave of the Chinese version Accommodation and Enabling Scale for Eating Disorders (AESED-C) was 0.918. Exploratory factor analysis showed that, five factors could explain 49.862% of the total variation. Each dimension score of AESED-C were moderately and highly correlated with its total score, and each dimension score were moderately or lowly or not correlated with each other. The Cronbach′s α coefficient was 0.877, and its test-retest reliability was 0.883. Conclusion The AESED-C has good reliability and validity, and it can be used to measure family accommodation of the patients with eating disorders.
