Objective To translate the Implementation Climate Scale (ICS), and to test its reliability and validity, so as to provide a measurement tool assessing perceived implementation climate of evidenced based practice in Chinese nurses. Methods A Chinese version of the ICS was developed using the Brislin translation model through translation, back translation and cultural adaptation. Then it was used to investigate 297 nurses from a tertiary hospital using convenience sampling to test its reliability and validity. Results The Chinese version ICS included six dimensions of focus on evidence-based practice, educational support for evidence-based practice, recognition for evidence-based practice, rewards for evidence-based practice, selection of practitioner for evidence-based practice, and selection for openness, with a total of 18 items. The decision values (CR) for the 18 items ranged from 19.884 to 32.438, and the correlation coefficients (r) between each item and the total scale score ranged from 0.776 to 0.883 (P<0.01 for all). The S-CVI/Ave was 0.926. The confirmatory factor analysis showed that, all indicators of the model met the criteria and the model fitted well. The Cronbach′s alpha coefficient of the scale was 0.975, its test-retest reliability was 0.983, and the split-half reliability was 0.935. Conclusion The Chinese version ICS has good reliability and validity in domestic nurses, and it can be used to measure nurses′ perception of the climate for implementing evidence-based practice.
