Abstract:Objective To construct and implement the pediatric nurse preparing program, and to evaluate its effectiveness from students′ perspectives. Methods A general-specialized pediatric nurse preparing program was developed. It includes pediatric-oriented courses, a theory-practice integrated clinical teaching model, a pediatric internship scheme which adds some novice nurse competency contents, a college-hospital cooperative mechanism, and an early-on professional culture immersion plan.The graduates of 2015 and 2016 were surveyed and invited to join symposiums for assessment of their learning satisfaction with the program.The students′ graduation examination results, employments and pediatric nurse job employments were documented. Results The students′ overall satisfaction with pediatric training was as high as (4.41±0.58) points. The students′ graduation examination scores and number of publications rose year by year; 83.05% of them clung to a pediatric nurse job offer. Conclusion The pediatric nurse preparing program, which features a 4-pronged approach (general courses, pediatric-oriented courses, pediatric clinical thinking training, novice nurse pediatric competence training contents), is sufficient to train pediatric nurses. In the future, it is necessary to longitudinally track its long-term effectiveness diversely.
