Abstract:Nurse prescribing rights in China should be defined as "the rights that allows registered nurses to prescribe drugs from within an agreed formulary in their practice settings". Through the legislative process of nurse prescribing in the United States and the United Kingdom as well as the experience of pilot work in Anhui Province, advancing rights of nurse prescribing in China has to face many restrictions of current laws and regulations. To promote legislation on prescribing rights for nurses, these measures should be conducted:carrying out extensive pilot work and scientifically determining standards for entry; strengthening the supervision responsibilities of family doctors and nurses and forming a doctor-nurse supervision mechanism; establishing responsibility of the attending physician, improving the responsibility confirmation mechanism and formulating departmental rules, thus to provide legal protection for nurse prescribers.
