Abstract:Objective To translate the Bullying Behaviors in Nursing Education Scale (BBNE) and to assess the reliability and validity in Chinese nursing students. Methods The BBNE was translated into simplified Chinese based on the Brislin′s classic back-translation model and was adapted. The reliability and validity of the Chinese version were tested in 552 nursing students. Results The Chinese version consisted of 18 items. Exploratory factor analysis revealed four factors, which could explain 73.244% of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis showed acceptable model fit for the four-factor model (CFI=0.916, IFI=0.918, and RMSEA=0.071). The scale-level Content Validity Index (CVI) was 0.972, and the item-level CVI ranged from 0.833 to 1.000. The Cronbach′s alpha coefficient for the total scale was 0.921, the split-half reliability coefficient was 0.956 and the test-retest reliability coefficient was 0.955. Conclusion The Chinese version of the BBNE has good reliability and validity, and can be used to measure bullying behaviors in nursing education among Chinese nursing students.
