Objective To explore the effect of three-module teaching plan for interns applied to the teaching of the Heimlich maneuver in a psychiatric hospital.Methods Totally,90 undergraduate nursing student were divided into 2 groups. The control group (n=44) was taught by traditional teaching method for choking management (predominantly the Heimlich maneuver), while the intervention group(n=46) was taught by a three-module teaching plan. The students were placed on clinical practicum for 2 weeks. Results Skills assessment and satisfaction scores in the intervention group were significantly higher than in the control group (P<0.01 for both). Conclusion Three-module teaching plan can improve the teaching effect of the Heimlich maneuver and first aid skills for interns, and enhance students′satisfaction skills.
