Objective To explore the training needs of first-line nurses during the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19). Methods Purposive sampling method was adopted to conduct remote WeChat-based semi-structured interview with 25 first-line nurses. Braun thematic analysis method was used to analyze data. Results The training needs of first-line nurses can be summarized into four themes:strengthening knowledge and skills; psychological coping skills; ramping up multisectoral collaboration; flexible training methods. Conclusion In the face of COVID-19, flexible training methods should be adopted to strengthen the skills and protection trainings for first-line nurses. Meanwhile, multisectoral cooperation, and psychological support to the nurses are in pressing need.
