Objective To explore the effect of applying modified SBAR handover mode in stomatology outpatient clinic. Methods Based on the SBAR communication mode as well as the characteristics of patients and nursing work in stomatology outpatient cli-nic, a modified SBAR nursing handover worksheet for stomatology outpatient clinic was designed and the SBAR handover mode was established. Results The handover quality scores before and after the implementation of the modified SBAR handover mode were 84.93±3.70 and 91.14±4.13, respectively, and the before-after difference was statistically significant （P＜0.01）. The scores of all but one("I find it doesn′t take much time in handovers") items of the nurses′ satisfaction with the handover questionnaire after implementation were higher than those before implementation （P＜0.05,P＜0.01）.The scores of doctors′ satisfaction with nurses′ work after implementation were significantly higher than before （P＜0.01）. Conclusion The modified SBAR handover mode significantly improves the quality of nursing handover in stomatology outpatient clinic, and enhance nurses′ satisfaction with handover as well as doctors′ satisfaction with nurses′ work.
