Objective To explore the effect of ECoach technologybased intervention in outpatients with hypertension. Methods A total of 232 patients with primary hypertension were randomized into a control group and an experimental group of 116, receiving either routine outpatient management or internetbased specialty nurseled ECoach intervention additionally. Effects were measured after 6 months of intervention. Results Ninetyeight patients in the control group and 102 patients in the experimental group completed the study. The rate of blood pressure control, average amount of weekly aerobic exercise, and scores of cognitive symptom management and communication with physicians were significantly higher, whereas systolic blood pressure was significantly lower in the experimental group than those in the control group (P<0.05, P<0.01). Conclusion Application of ECoach intervention in hypertensive patients contributes to enhancing selfcare behavior of patients, thus to achieve blood pressure control.
