Abstract:Objective To translate an English version of the Workplace Interruption Measurement Scale into Chinese and to assess the reliability and validity of Chinese version as a tool for measuring workplace interruptions in nurses′ workplaces. Methods This study translated, back-translated, and cross-culturally debugged the English version of the Workplace Interruption Measurement Scale based on the Benton Scale Translation Guide to form a Chinese version. A total of 478 nurses were selected for the survey using convenience sampling to test the reliability and validity of the scale. Results The Chinese version of the Workplace Interruption Measurement Scale consisted of four dimensions and 12 items.Exploratory factor analysis extracted four factors with a cumulative variance contribution of 77.079%, and validation factor results showed χ2/df=1.831,RMSEA=0.058,CFI=0.98,TLI=0.973,RMR=0.043,IFI=0.980,GFI=0.946. The content validity of the scale was I-CVI of 0.800-1.000, S-CVI was 0.983. Cronbach′s alpha for the scale was 0.909, Spearman-Brown splithalf coefficient was 0.760, and the retest reliability was 0.788. Conclusion The Chinese version of the Workplace Interruption Measurement Scale has good reliability and validity and can be used as a survey tool for the subjective assessment of work interruption for nurses.
