Objective To explore the lived experience and coping strategies of newly graduated nurses exposed to horizontal violence, and to provide reference for targeted intervention. Methods Fourteen nurses on a standardized training program received semi-structured interviews, then data were analyzed using Colaizzi′s seven-step method. Results Three main themes and 11 sub-themes emerged:forms of horizontal violence, causes and coping strategies. Conclusion The horizontal violence experienced by standardized training nurses originates from senior nurses and within themselves and the causes are intricate. Nurse managers should formulate appropriate strategies based on ethical practices and training systems to mitigate the incidence and negative impact of horizontal violence in standardized training nurses.
