Abstract:Objective To attenuate upper-limb spasticity in stroke patients and enhance the recovery of upper extremity function. Methods Totally, 78 stroke patients with upper-limb spasticity were randomized into one of two groups, with 39 cases in each group. The control group were treated with Chinese herbal moist-heat therapy, while the observation group additionally received meridian-based Huolong (Fire Dragon) cupping therapy. Effects were evaluated after four-week intervention. Results After intervention, the observation group had improved ability of activities of daily living, upper limb motor function, and modified Ashworth spasticity score compared with the control group (all P<0.05). Conclusion Use of meridian-based Huolong cupping combined with Chinese herbal moist-heat therapy proves to be more effective than conventional therapy in reducing spasticity and promoting the recovery of upper limb motor function.
