This paper reviews the definition and characteristics of ecological momentary assessment (EMA); highlights the assessment methods, patterns, and contents in physical activity assessment; and also proposes the role and challenges of EMA in physical activity assessment in patients with chronic diseases, aiming to provide a reference for physical activity intervention in patients with chronic diseases.
