Objective To translate the Comfort with Communication in Palliative and End-of-Life Care (C-COPE) instrument and test its reliability and validity among healthcare professionals. Methods According to the cross-cultural adaptation guideline, the procedure of literal translation, back translation, cross-cultural adaptation and pre-test were conducted to translate the original English version of the instrument into Chinese. The Chinese version of the C-COPE instrument was tested for reliability and validity using a convenience sample of 527 healthcare professionals. Results The Chinese version of C-COPE instrument had six dimensions, including team considerations, medical decision-making, spiritual considerations, symptoms management, sense of deliberation, and cultural considerations, with a cumulative variance contribution of 80.349%. The I-CVI was 0.860-1.000, and the S-CVI/Ave was 0.980. The Cronbach′s alpha coefficient was 0.910, and the test-retest reliability was 0.869. Conclusion The Chinese version of C-COPE has good reliability and validity. It can be used to measure the comfort level of hospice communication among Chinese healthcare professionals.
