Abstract:Objective To analyze factors affecting use of health management information platform (HMIP) in the elderly with comorbid digestive tract cancer and diabetes mellitus, to identify the path, and to provide reference for designing elderly-friendly HMIP. Methods Semi-structured interviews were conducted among 24 elderly patients and 6 caregivers, and grounded theory coding approach was employed to analyze the data. Results Factors affecting HMIP use in the elderly included environmental factors, individual characteristics and perceived value. Three action paths were identified: environment→individual characteristics→use behavior; environment→perceived value→use behavior; and interactions between individual characteristics and perceived value. Conclusion HMIP use in elderly patients with comorbid digestive tract cancer and diabetes was affected by several mutual interacting factors. In order to enhance HMIP use in the elderly, we should provide environmental support, and enhance their willingness and perceived value.
