Abstract:Objective To describe the learning experiences of undergraduate nursing students in ideological and political education in the course of Geriatric Nursing, and to provide reference for continuous improvement of teaching effect. Methods A semi-structured interview was conducted among 15 undergraduate nursing students who had completed the course, then data were analyzed to identify common themes. Results Three themes and nine sub-themes were extracted:establishing correct values (patriotism and love of Xinjiang, love of the socialism system, and professional commitment and dedication), enhancing professionalism and identity (professional awareness, professional pride, and professional benefits), and expectations for ideological and political education (teaching contents, teaching methods, and practical teaching). Conclusion Ideological and political education in the course of Geriatric Nursing brings positive emotional experience to nursing students, however, there are still some problems that need to be improved to further promote teaching effect.
