Abstract:Objective To explore the facilitators and barriers of implementing home-based hospice care by community medical staff, and to provide a reference for effectively promoting home-based hospice care. Methods Descriptive qualitative method was performed for this study.A total of 13 medical staff from two community health service centers in Kunming were selected by purposive sampling method for semi-structured interviews, and the content analysis method was used to organize and analyze the data. Results Two themes were extracted:the facilitators and barriers of home-based hospice care for community medical staff, respectively.The theme of facilitators included three sub-themes:the importance of home-based hospice care, easy access to residents, and patients′ needs for home-based hospice care.The theme of barriers included four sub-themes: policy support factors, healthcare worker factors, patient and family factors, and risk factors. Conclusion There are multi-dimensional facilitators and barriers in the implementation of home-based hospice care by community medical staff.It is necessary to pay attention to the importance of government, community medical staff, patients and family members participating in home-based hospice care, and build a home-based hospice care service model that conforms to China′s national conditions.
