Abstract:Objective To investigate the current situation of alexithymia among male nurses in Zhejiang province and analyze its influencing factors. Methods A sample of 346 male nurses from 10 3A general hospitals in different regions of Zhejiang province were selected. The demographic questionnaire, the Alexithymia Scale and the Social Support Rating Scale were used for survey. Results The incidence rate of alexithymia among male nurses in Zhejiang province was 32.08%, and the whole sample scored (57.35±5.50) points in alexithymia, which was negatively correlated with social support (r=-0.214,P<0.05). Multivariate stepwise linear regression analysis showed that age, professional title, working years, marital status, working departments, the type of employment and social support were main influencing factors of alexithymia (all P<0.05). Conclusion The incidence rate of alexithymia among male nurses in Zhejiang province is high. Hospital managers should take effective measures based on the perspective of social support utilization, in an effort to improve male nurses′ awareness and expression of the emotion, and further improve their mental health level.
