Abstract:Objective To translate the Family Avoidance of Communication about Cancer Scale (FACC) from English to Chinese, and to test the reliability and validity of the translated Chinese version scale in breast cancer patients. Methods A Chinese version of FACC was obtained according to Brinslin′s translation model. Then it was used to investigate 784 breast cancer patients, half of the measurement data (392) were selected for item analysis and exploratory factor analysis, and the other half (392) were utilized for confirmatory factor analysis and reliability analysis. Results The scale consisted of 5 items with the factor loadings ranged from 0.668 to 0.877, and a single-factor model was obtained with a cumulative variance contribution of 64.164%.The single-factor model fitted well (χ2/df,RMSEA,GFI,AGFI,CFI,IFI,TLI was 2.301, 0.058, 0.988, 0.963,0.992,0.992,0.983,respectively).The Cronbach′s α coefficient of the scale was 0.843, the Spearman-Brown coefficient was 0.839, and its test-retest reliabi-lity was 0.671. Conclusion The Chinese version of FACC has good reliability and validity, which could be used to measure cancer-related communication in breast cancer patients.
