Objective To evaluate the effect of Internet based health coaching on self-care ability and PICC-related complications in school age children with cancer. Methods Sixty-four school age children with PICC were assigned to a control group of 33 and an observation group of 31 according to their discharge time, receiving either routine continuous care or Internet-based health coaching. Before and at 4 months of intervention, self-management ability and PICC-related complications were measured and compared between the two groups. Results The observation group showed significantly higher self-management ability and lower incidence of catheter blockage compared with the control group (P<0.05,P<0.01). Conclusion Internet based health coaching can improve self-management ability of the family and reduce PICC-related complications in children with cancer.
