Objective To explore the effective methods to reduce suicidal ideation in emergency department patients who attempted suicide. Methods According to the ′Caring for Adult Patients with Suicide Risk: A Consensus Guide for Emergency Departments′, a brief suicide risk intervention protocol was developed to guide interventions on 57 patients who attempted suicide and admitted in the emergency department. Results None of the patients attempted suicide again.Patients′ suicidal ideation and attitudes showed significant differences before and six months after the intervention (P<0.01 for both). Conclusion The brief suicide risk intervention measures can ameliorate suicidal ideation and attitudes of patients who attempted suicide.
