Abstract:Objective To design and implement an integrative curriculum of Fundamental Nursing and Nursing Humanism, and to evaluate the teaching effect. Methods Seventy-two vocational college nursing students of two classes enrolled in 2019 were treated as the experimental group, and 69 students from another two classes served as the control group.The control group was given routine teaching according to the scheme, while the experimental group was subjected to an integrative curriculum of Fundamental Nursing and Nursing Humanism, which amalgamated such 4 courses of Fundamental Nursing, Nursing Ethics, Laws and Regulations, Nursing Etiquette and Interpersonal Communication, and Nursing Management.The integrative teaching modules and contents were consulted through Delphi technique, then teachers were trained on how to implement the integrative curriculum, standardized patient was used for practice and examination, and online course platform was also constructed.At the end of the course, students′ performance in examinations and teaching effects evaluated by questionnaire survey were compared between the two groups. Results The experimental group had higher examination scores in three curricula except the curriculum of Nursing Management, and better usual performance in the second semester and operation skills compared with the control group (P<0.05,P<0.01). Humanistic literacy and clinical thinking ability of the students in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.01 for both). Conclusion The integrative curriculum of Fundamental Nursing and Nursing Humanism shows excellent teaching effects, which significantly improves nursing students′ academic performance and professional ability.
