Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of applying blended learning in life and-death education curriculum for medical students. Methods The 105 undergraduate medical students who took the course of "Death Culture and Education of Life and Death" were subjected to blended learning model which included the combination of online teaching and offline teaching. Online teaching was carried out with the assistance of "Wisdom Tree" online teaching platform, in the form of resources sharing, virtual teaching, discussions and answering questions. Offline teaching was carried out in the form of experiential teaching, PBL teaching, role-playing,etc. Death attitudes of the students before and after the course were compared and the students′ appraisal of the course was collected at the course conclusion. Results After the course, the average scores of death fear, death escape and escape acceptance dimensions of death attitudes were significantly lower than before the course (P<0.01 for all). In the course evaluation, 91.4% of the students believed that they were fully adapted to blended learning; 92.4% said that they gained a lot from blended learning, and 85.7% would like to hold to blended learning. Conclusion Blended learning used in life and death education course, which achieved high degree of approval by students, could effectively reduce students′ fear and avoidance of death and increase their rational understanding of death.
