Abstract:Objective To investigate the status quo and influencing factors of workplace bullying in nursing, and to explore its correlation with nurses′ emotional intelligence. Methods Totally, 5,331 nurses from 8 hospitals in Xinjiang were conveniently selected, and filled out the general demographic questionnaire, the Chinese version Negative Acts Questionnaire -Revised (NAQ-R) and the Emotional Intelligence Scale. Results The median score of workplace bullying 25.00 points, and the score of emotional intelligence averaged (69.06±13.58) points.The incidence rate of workplace bullying was 31.81%, and the incidence rate of serious bullying was 14.37%. Workplace bullying total scores were negatively correlated with emotional intelligence total scores (r=-0.693,P<0.01).Regression analysis showed that gender, working years, departments, and all dimensions of emotional intelligence were influencing factors of workplace bullying (P<0.05,P<0.01), which explained 45.4% of the total variation of workplace bullying. Conclusion The incidence of workplace bullying in nursing is relatively high. Nursing managers should learn from the management experience in different fields at home and abroad, and take measures to improve nurses′ emotional intelligence, in an effort to reduce the occurrence of workplace bullying.
