Abstract:Objective To systematically evaluate the tools that assess elderly self-neglect, and to provide a reference for selection of appropriate screening tool of elderly self-neglect. Methods PubMed, EBSCO, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, The Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang data, VIP and CBM were searched by computer for the studies on assessment tools of elderly self-neglect.The limit for publication date of the literature was from inception of the database until October 2020.The quality criteria for mea-surement properties of health status questionnaires were employed for the evaluation of the quality of the included assessment tools. Results A total of 12 papers were included, involving 8 English questionnaires and 4 Chinese questionnaires. All of the 12 tools can be used as other-reported questionnaires, while three of them were both self-reported and other-reported questionnaires. Six questionnaires reported clear content validity, and only one questionnaire met the criteria of internal consistency. Conclusion Most of the self-neglect assessment tools are other-reported quality of questionnaires and their quality varies.It is necessary to develop a rapid screening self-reported tool with high reliability and validity.
