Abstract:Objective To evaluate and summarize best evidence on oral management for the elderly, and to provide references for establishment of oral management scheme for the elderly in China. Methods We Searched systematically in guideline websites and electronic databases for guidelines and expert consensus reports regarding oral management in the elderly from inception until May 1st,2020.Two researchers independently evaluated the quality of the literature, and took the judgment of medical professionals into consideration.Data extraction was carried out for literature meeting the inclusion and exclusion standards. Results A total of 8 guidelines/expert consensus reports (one in Chinese, and 7 in English) were included.The best evidence extracted from the guidelines/expert consensus reports crystalized into 7 aspects of oral care assessments, oral care implementation, oral care evaluation, denture care, special oral care, oral care education, oral care management, totaling 27 pieces of evidence. Conclusion Clinical nur-sing staff should provide scientific and effective oral management measures for the elderly in accordance with the best evidence, in an effort to improve the quality of oral management, promote oral health and overall health in the elderly.
