Abstract:Objective To explore the benefit finding experience among spouses of postoperative breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, so as to provide reference for conducting targeted nursing in clinic. Methods A qualitative study was conducted utilizing semi-structured in-depth interview among 14 spouses of postoperative breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Results Five themes were extracted: personal growth (increased recognition of the disease, improved caregiving skills, understanding and patience), perceived social support (perceived friends and family support, perceived peer support, perceived medical staff support), understanding the meaning of roles (responsibility and obligation, self-achievement promotion, altruistic behavior), positive life (accept the reality and strive to adjust, set goals and plan life), pay attention to health(emphasis on health examination and healthy lifestyle). Conclusion Medical staff should transfer their previous perspective from negative emotions, to explore the effect of spouses′ positive energy in the caring situation, so that they can devote themselves to caring their wives in a healthier physical and mental state, thus promoting the recovery of patients.
