Objective To evaluate the effect of telecare on symptoms and perceptions of telecare in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods A total of 256 COPD patients were randomized into a control group and an intervention group of 128, receiving either routine nursing care or telecare respectively. COPD Assessment Test (CAT) was performed before and after 8 weeks of intervention in both groups. Additionally, patients in the intervention group were asked to fill out the perceptions of telemedicine questionnaire. Results The intervention group had lower CAT score compared with the control group after the intervention (P<0.05). The average score of perceptions of telemedicine questionnaire was 62.48±4.50. Conclusion Telecare can effectively relieve symptoms of COPD patients. Participants hold positive attitude towards telemedicine though it still needs to be improved.
