Abstract:Objective To evaluate and summarize the best evidence on tools/technologies for patient identification, and to provide reference for standardizing management of patient identification. Methods Electronic search was performed based on the 6S Hierarchy of Evidence to retrieve literature in BMJ Best Practice, UpToDate, Joanna Briggs Institute, National Health Service website, National Safety and Quality Health Service website, CNKI, Wanfang Data, Medlive website and National Health Commission of the People′ s Republic of China, etc. Quality of the literature was evaluated following JBI standards and the level of evidence recommendation was determined. Results A total of 19 articles were included, including 5 guidelines, 1 clinical decision report, 9 expert consensus statements, 1 evidence summary, 1 systematic review, 1 government report and 1 hospital standard. Finally, 16 pieces of best evidence were summarized and categorized into 5 aspects as identification tool/technology management, wristband, photo, identification card, and new tool/technology. Conclusion Evidence users need to combine relevant policies and current status of medical institutions when using evidence, and assess the suitability of patient identification tool/technology, so as to achieve scientific management of patient identification tools/technologies and verify and update the best evidence.
