Objective To develop a WeChat mini-program for home care of central venous catheters (CVCs) in cancer patients, and to explore the application effect. Methods A total of 677 cancer patients with CVCs were randomized into a control group of 339 and an intervention group of 338, receiving either routine nursing care or follow-ups through self-designed WeChat mini-program. The effect was evaluated at 3 months after discharge. Results The intervention group had higher self-management agency and patient satisfaction, but lower incidence of catheter-associated bloodstream infection and unplanned extubation compared with the control group (P<0.05,P<0.01). Conclusion The application of mobile App for home care of CVCs in cancer patients can enhance their self-management agency, prevent or reduce catheter-related complications and unplanned extubation, and promote patient satisfaction.
