Abstract:Objective To relieve renal edema in patients with kidney-Yang-deficiency and dampness-stasis TCM syndrome-type. Methods Seventy patients with renal edema of kidney-Yang-deficiency and dampness-stasis TCM syndrome-type were randomized into either a control group (n=35) or an intervention group (n=35). Both groups were given routine treatment. The control group was subjected to conventional care for edema, while the intervention group received external application of mirabilite combining traditional Lei-huo-jiu therapy with a 5-day course of treatment per week, totaling 2 courses. Results The intervention group had increased urine volume and decreased circumference of the leg compared with the control group (P<0.05,P<0.01), but there were no significant differences in body weight and circumference of the ankle between the two groups (P>0.05 for both). Conclusion External application of mirabilite combining traditional Lei-huo-jiu therapy can effectively relieve renal edema in patients with kidney-Yang-deficiency and dampness-stasis TCM syndrome-type.The TCM techniques are safe and easy to operate.
