Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of five-minute preceptor (5MP) model applied in clinical teaching of undergraduate nur-sing students. Methods Totally 95 undergraduate nursing students were assigned to either a control (n=45) or an intervention group (n=50) chronologically.Participants in the control group received traditional clinical mentoring, while their counterparts in the intervention group were subjected to 5MP model for clinical teaching following such steps as assigning tasks, inquiring suppor-ting evidence, teaching general rules, giving positive feedbacks and correcting mistakes. All these teaching activities were completed within 5 minutes. Results The intervention group had higher theoretical knowledge and practical skills test scores, as well as higher evaluation of the teaching effect compared with the control group after 4-week clinical practice (P<0.05,P<0.01). Conclusion Implementation of 5MP model in clinical nursing education is beneficial to improve teaching effect and students′ evaluation of the teaching.
