Abstract:Objective To develop a multidisciplinary cooperative psychosocial intervention program for gastrointestinal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and to provide references for clinical psychosocial support interventions. Methods After field observation made at typical instititutions, identification of focus problems, and literature reviewing, the researchers constructed an initial draft for an intervention program which was grounded on the stress and coping model then onsite consultation with a multidisciplinary team and patients was conducted to finalize the final intervention protocol. Results A total of 51 publications were included. The psychosocial intervention program included disease knowledge and treatment, prevention, identification and management of toxic effect, case sharing of stress coping by cancer patients, stress identification and coping, cognitive change, relationship change and maintenance, anticancer experience sharing, patient needs assessment, support, and referral of patient. Conclusion The psychosocial intervention program, which is based on multidisciplinary cooperation, fits clinical situation, and expects further field validation in the process of clinical practice.
