Abstract:Objective To provide psychological counseling service for patients with severe COVID-19, and to relieve their psychological pressure. Methods Five patients with severe COVID-19 were found to have both anxiety and depression after psychological screening. One-to-one psychological counseling service was provided to the 5 patients with the measures of listening, breathing and relaxation training, raising awareness of disease significance, changing experience elements, etc. A 1-to-10 digital scale was used to measure patients′ worry, anxiety, fear and other mental states before and after the counseling service. Results Before the counseling service was provided, the numbers of patients tallied 4 cases, 5 cases, 4 cases, 3 cases respectively with a score ≥ 4 points in worry, anxiety, fear and other mental states. After the service, the numbers of patients dropped to 2 cases, 1 case, 1 case, and 2 cases respectively with a score≥ 4 points in worry, anxiety, fear and other mental states. Conclusion Patients with severe COVID-19 have strong negative emotions. Timely psychological intervention can significantly help patients get out of psychological crisis.
