Abstract:Objective To explored the effects of peer education through WeChat group on illness perception and post-traumatic growth for postoperative patients with laryngeal cancer. Methods A total of 93 postoperative patients with laryngeal cancer were randomized into a control group (47 cases) and an intervention group (46 cases) using a random number table.The control group received routine health education and follow-up, while the intervention group additionally received peer education through WeChat group for 6 months after discharge. The illness perception and post-traumatic growth level of the two groups at admission, 1 month,3 months and 6 months after discharge were evaluated and compared. Results At 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after discharge, the intervention effect,time effect and time × intervention effect of illness perception andpost-traumatic growth between the two groups were significant (P<0.05,P<0.01). Conclusion Peer education through WeChat group is helpful for postoperative patients with laryngeal cancer obtaining support from their peers, thereby improving their illness perception and post-traumatic growth.
