Abstract:Objective To explore the methods and effects of continuous nursing quality improvement of intravenous therapy based on demonstration cases construction. Methods We established an intravenous therapy team, improved the intravenous therapy nursing operation standard, and conducted continuous nursing quality improvement of multi-level intravenous therapy. The puncture site, the use of intravenous therapy tools, catheter fixation methods and complications for the patients before (n=469) and after (n=558) the intervention were compared. Results After the intervention, the nurses′ choice of venous puncture site, choice of puncture tools, use of additional infusion devices, catheter fixation and maintenance were significantly improved, and the incidence of complications was significantly lower than that before the intervention (P<0.05,P<0.01). Conclusion The continuous nursing quality improvement of intravenous therapy based on demonstration cases construction, can enhance the quality of intravenous therapy, and ensure patient safety during the therapy.
