Abstract:Objective To understand the attitudes towards and skills of grief counseling for nurses in oncology department, and to provide evidence for clinical education and training of grief counseling service. Methods Totally,316 nurses working in oncology department were recruited to fill out the attitudes towards and skills of grief counseling service questionnaire. Results The nurses scored (37.91±7.76) in attitudes, and (19.90±3.90) in skills. Such factors as whether to have a psychological counselor qualification or not, and grief counseling skills, contributed to influence nurses′ attitudes towards grief counseling service (P<0.05,P<0.01).Nurses′ grief counseling skills could be predicted by the following factors as in whether to have received grief counseling training, the chances to have engagement with bereaved families, whether to have a psychological counselor qualification, and attitudes towards grief counseling service (P<0.05,P<0.01). Conclusion Oncology nurses′ attitudes towards and skills of grief counseling service were slightly above medium level.Measures should be taken to strengthen grief counseling service for oncology nurses.
