Objective To explore the the influence of regional medical center on PICC nursing management in primary hospitals under the background of health care reforms of medical care, medical insurance and pharmaceutical industry. Methods Before the establishment of a regional medical center,70 patients with a PICC line were chosen into a control group, who received routine nursing care in hospitals.Then Shanghai Songjiang Central Hospital was appointed as the regional medical center of the distric.A PICC management team was established by the center to aid nursing management, personnel training and quality control of PICC in the peripheral community health service centers, which formed a PICC maintenance network. Another 70 cases with a PICC line who received standardized PICC maintenance care at the health service centers were included into the research group, and compared with the control group. Results Incidence rates of PICC related complications in the research group were lower than the control group, though significant differences were not observed between the 2 groups （P＞0.05 for all）.The former had significantly higher satisfaction rates regarding PICC maintenance care （P＜0.01）.Nurses reported significantly higher satisfaction rates after the establishment of the PICC maintenance network. Conclusion Under the background of health care reforms of medical care, medical insu-rance and pharmaceutical industry, by establishing a PICC maintenance network in the distric, Shanghai Songjiang Central Hospital as the regio-nal medical center, provided professional aids to the peripheral grass root hospitals,and improved the service capacity of the hospitals.By providing cancer patients with more convenient, safe and high quality PICC maintenance service, health care reforms of medical care, medical insurance and pharmaceutical industry were further deepened.
