Abstract:Objective To investigate the preparedness and burden of old-aged family caregivers caring for elderly patients with urostomy, to analyze the correlation between the two variables, and to provide references for the management of continuous care in elderly care. Methods A total of 120 family caregivers of elderly patients with urostomy were surveyed using a general information questionnaire, the Caregiver Preparedness Scale (assessed at discharge), and the Zarit Caregiver Burden Interview (assessed one month after discharge). Results The total score for caregiver preparedness was (15.09±3.43) points, while the total score for caregiver burden was (39.63±5.35) points.A negative correlation was found between caregiver preparedness and caregiver burden (P<0.05).Hierarchical regression analysis showed that after controlling the general information, caregiver preparedness explained 11.7% of the variance in caregiver burden. Conclusion Old-aged family caregivers caring for elderly patients with urostomy exhibit low levels of preparedness, with caregiver burden ranging from mild to moderate. The level of preparedness negatively impacts ca-regiver burden. It is essential to pay attention to the physical and mental health of these caregivers and to enhance their preparedness comprehensively, thereby reducing their caregiving burden.
