Abstract:Objective To systematically integrate qualitative studies on patients′ experiences with medication safety participation, providing a basis for developing strategies to enhance patient involvement in medication safety management. Methods A computer-based search was conducted in both Chinese and English academic databases for qualitative studies on patients′ experiences with medication safety participation, with a search time frame from database inception to January 2024.The quality of the included stu-dies was assessed using the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for Qualitative Research, and a synthesis of the results was conducted using a meta-integrative approach. Results A total of 8 studies were included, extracting 40 findings, which were categorized into 6 new categories and further synthesized into two integrated outcomes:patients′ attitudes toward medication safety participation and the barriers influencing patients′ involvement in medication safety. Conclusion Healthcare institutions should accelerate the development of a safety culture that includes patient participation, focus on establishing effective doctor-patient interaction models, and actively engage in patient education on medication safety to promote the further implementation of strategies for patient involvement in medication safety, thereby ensuring patient safety in medication use.
